PostHeaderIcon Why does my gas boiler keep relighting when it is already lit?

The pilot light is on and the gas is burning then there will be a series of loud clicks like the thermostat with interspersed ticking from the igniter. Sometimes the gas will then go out and relight again. This goes on all day but almost constantly just after the timer switches it on from cold.
OK, the boiler is a Servowarm Supreme radiator / boiler combi. The clicking is definitely the thermostat switching on and off repeatedly and its this that is forcing the gas to relight. What could be causing the thermostat to switch on and off repeatedly (often 20 times a minute)? It does sound as though there is air in the system (some bubbling and gurgling) but I have been unable to bleed it out. All readitors are fully bled.

Hi on a lot of combi boilers, there is a preference for hot water. this means that the boiler will first fulfil a demand for hot water rather than run the heating. what happens is if the heating is on and the boiler running, as soon as the hot tap is opened the boiler will start to produce hot water.

to do this it will stop the heating cycle and refire the boiler.

the boiler will then refire when the hot water demand stops and it turns back to heating.

so basicly the more the hot water is used around the house the more it will restart.

it would be tough to give a diagnosis on this without more system information but this is just to let u know that the refiring can be completely normal.

PostHeaderIcon Is there any free plans on how to build a wood furnace/boiler (on line)?

I can’t seem to find any that are free but plenty that are $75 or so. that seems kinda steep when all I really need are a few measurements. I have found most of the parts I need I’m just looking for something that will tell me how big things need to be for my application. Thanks in advance!!

spend sometime on"motherearthnews.com" look around I found a method of heating a small shop in the country with compost and a radiant heat system that is the cheapest heating system ever. im sure you’ll find what you want

PostHeaderIcon What’s a good boiler for home central heating combi boiler?

I’m looking to replace my home combi boiler, but not sure what make to get. Don’t want to spend a fortune, but do not want the cheapest either. One that can be fixed easily goes if it goes wrong. Not one that no one can work on, or is a throw away unit after a few years. What would be a good reliable replacement?

Pete

I fit Baxi Duotecs or Platinums, they are basicly the same boiler except the Platinum comes with a 5 years warranty, but cost £200 more to start with, the duotec has a 2 year warranty and won Which magazine best boiler in 2008. They are user and installer friendly and I have only had 1 go wrong within the warranty period out of about 100 or more I’ve fitted to date.
