I have a terrace house that has the chimneys for the old open coal fires. the fireplaces have been ripped out at some point and i would like to put a log burning stove in the future. i was wondering as i have a cellar directly under my front room where the log burner would be. would it be possible to add a back boiler to heat my water? I currently have a combi Gas Boiler in a different part of the house supplying the hot water and central heating.
You can’t incorporate the combi boiler with a wood burner to heat your hot water, you need a hot water tank. I’ve just fitted a multi fuel stove and this is what my plumber told me. You could have a hot water tank fitted somewhere in your house an have your stove heat the water but it would be quite costly and creates quite a lot of mess. My brother has a large multi fuel stove that heats water and radiators, and when stove isn’t lit the oil central heating kicks in. Plus points are you have the room where the stove is nice and warm, plus hot water and the effect is lovely. Down sides, stoves eat wood at a huge rate, if you have a multi fuel stove be prepared for the dust it creates plus the cost of keeping it running, it costs me about £20 a week to run and that is without a boiler on it. You’ll need at least 2 pumps if you are using stove to heat water and radiators. If you are putting one in then consider all the costs and options, you might just be as well having an open fire in that room and continue with your existing system.
From where to buy original boiler parts or spares in wholesale?

Yes get a log stove with a boiler , you will also need a cylinder , for storage of water , and while the heating side of the combi will interact with the solid fuel ,the direct hot water side will become obsolete , if the boiler is old it maybe worth looking into changing it for one that will heat the water via the primary circuit in you new cylinder

Technically probably could as long as there is room for the boiler behind the fire . Also pipes would need to be installed for cold input and hot to go to storage tank , As you have a combi now ,, do you have hot water storage ? I don’t ,, nor a cold water cistern , Also a fire back boiler will not heat water as well as a combi . Need a roaring fire to get much more than warm water , .. The house I live in had a coal fire with back boiler and this was for hot water and 3 radiators .. was pretty useless , so used immersion mainly.. but had it all taken out .. Fitted a combi and extra radiators and a living gas fire to fireplace which looks exactly like a real fire , Lots of warmth .
