How often should you have your gas boiler inspected?
what are the signs of an ageing hot water boiler you find in any household kitchen & how often should it be inspected by British gas for example ?
How long do they normally last for before needing replacing or parts need replacing ?
How is it best to have the Gas Boiler running – that is at intermittent set periods or on 24hr
constantly ?
I know if its on 24hrs at a time the bill will be high.
Thanks for reading.
Why should you not have the heating on when your asleep ?
Annual inspection is recommended for all gas boilers. Age is irrelevant. If it works as intended and you don’t wish to upgrade to an A rated boiler you don’t have to. They can last forever, it’s the spares that run out eventually. General opinion is that timed heating is the most economical.
boilers last at least 10yrs they should be serviced every two years you should not have heating on when you are asleep keep the temperature at medium 17 degrees only have a corgi registered.

a lot of insurance firms insist on yearly .and as for leaving it on 24 hrs this is not necessarily a question another person can answer if you feel warm at night turn it off if you don’t leave it on .the question of best boiler at the moment ferrolli are offering 5years parts and labour on some of their boilers .this seems to be the best deal at the moment.but most boilers installed by a fuuly qualified gas safe engineer will last a lot longer than one installed by the cheapest quote engineer .plus a boiler manufacturer will only repair a boiler installed correctly ,that means gas safe engineer installed

Firstly a note to Random you are obviously over qualified to answer questions here. All boiler manufacturers advise annual serivce to gas boilers and Corgi ceased to exist as far as Great Britain is concerned as the gas safety organisation and was replaced by Gas Safe Register last April1st. A boiler will last as long as you can obtain spares for them plus until it breaks down again. Again manufacturers will suggest that 10/15 years is a reasonable ‘efficient’ life for a boiler. With todays high efficiency boilers some savings can be made on energy but with the generally high cost of these boilers you probably wont get your money back in the life of the boiler. A new grant for England has just been announced giving £400 rebate for people having a new ‘A’ band boiler fitted that will help that situation.
As to sleeping with the heating on I think thats a bit of an old wives tale as they dont seem to turn off the heating in hospitals overnight do they. However you shouldnt need the heating on as high in the night so just to stop it from getting cold should be enough. My stat is on 16C at night and very rarely does the boiler fire up in the night.
