Which form of heating is cheapest to run. Gas boiler or night storage electric?
The government has announced a boiler scrapage scheme but is electricity a better option?
Any experience welcomed.
I have and old Gas Boiler and I realise the grant is to fit a new efficient boiler.
I wonder if electric is a cheaper green option.
Gas is by far the cheaper option, the scrappage scheme is a benefit but only if you need to replace you boiler, a replacement is normally about £2000 to £4000, depending on who does it, using the Sedbuks own figures, the saving that you make from using less gas by installing a condensing high efficiency boiler, would take about thirty years to get back, unfortunately, these boilers are only expected to last for about fifteen years, so you will never actually make a saving, the scrappage scheme is not the same as it is for cars, a car you can sell when you want to replace it but a boiler is with you until it breaks down or you move to another property, keep your present boiler until it needs replacing, at least you can put off the extra expense until it is necessary.
