Apart from wood, what other fuels can you burn on a closed stove with back boiler?

After my horrendous winter gas bill I’m seeking to cut heating costs. I’d prefer some kind of fire that I can burn my rubbish on instead of sending it to the tip.

smokeless fuel, some types of coal and to start it you can use all your old newspapers and cardboard.

Why would water be flowing out of my discharge tube on my hot h20 heater? We heat with an outdoor wood boiler?

We have an outdoor Wood Boiler. We heat our hot water heater with this. We have not had any problems until now. Once the temp on the boiler outside hits 185 then the water starts to come out of the discharge tube on the hot water heater in our garage. I mean run out. Maybe so far today 3 gallons. Once the temp goes down alot cooler on the boiler maybe 110 then the water stops coming out of the tube. The hot water tank is only 3yrs. old.

I’d guess you have the temperature set too high (130 is the recommended max) and the pressure is building up in the tank until it does what it is supposed to, relieve it through the discharge tube.

What paint to use on a outdoor wood furnace boiler.?

I’m making a water boiler for an outdoor wood furnace and I want to coat the inside of it with some kind of paint so it doesn’t rust out. Anyone know of a paint that can handle temps up to 200 and prevents rust. The only thing i can think of is engine or header paint. Thanks

Can I use an old chimney flue intended for a wood or coal range as a duct for a modern range hood?

My house has a 3 flue chimney with one closed off opening to the kitchen for a flue that is not in use. I suppose it was for a wood or coal kitchen range. The chimney rises through my 2 story 1898 home and thru the attic. The other two flues are for the boiler and a fireplace which is never used. . We wonder if a range hood could vent into this flue? Our carpenter worries that it would cause a lot of heat loss. I worry that the old flue might be very dirty.

It would be perfectly fine for you to do this. However, your carpenter is absolutely right. When you are cooking in the winter and start up your hood, it’s going to blow expensive hot air right out of your chimney. All in all, it’s not really worth it unless you live in a very warm climate.
