What’s a good boiler for home central heating combi boiler?

I’m looking to replace my home combi boiler, but not sure what make to get. Don’t want to spend a fortune, but do not want the cheapest either. One that can be fixed easily goes if it goes wrong. Not one that no one can work on, or is a throw away unit after a few years. What would be a good reliable replacement?
Regards
Pete

I fit Baxi Duotecs or Platinums, they are basicly the same boiler except the Platinum comes with a 5 years warranty, but cost £200 more to start with, the duotec has a 2 year warranty and won Which magazine best boiler in 2008. They are user and installer friendly and I have only had 1 go wrong within the warranty period out of about 100 or more I’ve fitted to date.

Need a boiler programmer that operates water and central heating independantly?

Vaillant are good boilers – check out the Which report on boilers:

If you get an accredited installer for Vaillant you get 5 years guarantee.

British Gas fit Worcester Bosch because they are reliable boilers. With any combi you if you want good hot water flow you need a big one. They don’t cost any more to run the CH as they ‘modulate’ i.e., the flame reduces as the rads heat up. Look at the DHW flow rates before you buy, and consider using a Gas Safe contractor to ‘install only’ as this can work out cheaper. Look at online prices for Worcester Bosch and others. I have a Glow Worm combi that has proved to be very reliable and my son-in-law has a Vokera which hasn’t missed a beat.

Reliable will depend on who does the installation.
Good installation and commissioning will make the difference.
Worcester and Vaillant are top brands while Baxi have been the installers preferred choice in the last few years according to the Gas installer magazine.
Fit Vokera at your own risk.

Baxi – Worcester Bosch – Vaillant, all good boilers.
If you don’t want to spend a fortune then keep away from British Gas.
