The boiler needed to be suspended because of the way the fan mounts. Making the whole unit look like a BB-Q makes it a bit more house friendly. Its also a good way to tidy up all the controls, steam engine, water reservoir into one accessible place. I sure learned that anymore than two pounds of wood is unnecessary. With four pounds and fan on high it looks like a Mig 15 afterburner. Next is the tedious fitting of the tubing, and controls, then more testing, refinements.

A wood fired boiler that gasifies the wood and then burns it clean. Starts with a 16 gallon steel drum, lined with castable refractory. As much as I like to keep things compact, typical firewood dictates the size. Although still no bigger than an average BBQ grill. The water wall and spiral sections of tubing will be installed next. The boiler tubing section is designed so it can be easily lifted out without disconnection of tubing or electrical. This is a video of a Tatano pellet boiler burning a mixture of, wood pellets, wheat straw pellets, barley straw pellets, reed canary grass pellets, miscanthus pellets and cardboard pellets. All of these pellets are known collectively as biomass pellets. These fuel pellets have been produced using the PelHeat Mobile Pelletizer, which can produce biomass fuel pellets from a wide variety of materials. The unit is based on a small single axel trailer and features a hammer mill for size reduction and a flat die pellet mill to compress the material into pellets. The units are powered by Perkins diesel engines, which can also use bio-diesel.

Biomass pellets are a carbon neutral fuel source, as they are sourced from the carbon cycle they do not introduce extra carbon in to the cycle like fossil fuels. With the PelHeat Mobile Pelletizer local biomass resources can be used to produce biomass pellets, which are then used in the local community. This produces a cheaper fuel for the consumer, provides income and jobs for the local economy, utilizes local biomass resources and waste resources, and reduces dependence on foreign oil.
